When I first founded Hawaii Fluid Art, beyond the canvas, I had one dream in mind: to create a space where everyone—regardless of age, background, or ability—could feel seen, valued, and inspired through creativity. I never imagined just how profoundly this dream would touch lives across the country.
Today, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude as I reflect on the incredible impact HFA is making from coast to coast, especially in the lives of differently abled adults and children. Our studios have become more than art spaces—they’ve become safe havens, places of joy, connection, and belonging for so many individuals and families who may not feel that in other parts of their world.
A Safe Space for All
What makes HFA different isn’t just the art—it’s the spirit of aloha that lives in every studio. It’s the warm smile that greets each guest at the door. It’s the instructor who takes the time to adapt a process to fit someone’s needs. It’s the way we celebrate each person’s masterpiece, not for how it looks—but for the story and soul behind it.
For many of our guests with autism, cognitive or physical differences, and sensory sensitivities, the world can feel overwhelming or exclusionary. At HFA, we say: You belong here. You are welcome. You are celebrated. We don’t just teach art—we hold space. And that changes lives.
The Joy in the Journey
The smiles, the laughter, the tears of joy—these are the moments that stay with me. I’ve seen children who’ve never spoken light up as they mix colors for the first time. I’ve seen adults who were once too anxious to try something new walk out of our studio confident and proud with their artwork in hand.
And these moments are not the exception. They are the heartbeat of our mission. They remind us that beyond the canvas lies the true beauty of Hawaii Fluid Art—
🩷 The friendships formed
🩷 The confidence built
🩷 The families connected
🩷 The memories made
Growing Through Giving
What started as a single dream in Hawaii is now a nationwide movement. We are in communities across the country, and we are growing—not just in numbers, but in impact. Every new franchise, every new studio owner, becomes part of a mission that is far bigger than business. We grow because we give, and because we care deeply about every person who walks through our doors.
A Personal Note
As the founder of Hawaii Fluid Art, I often feel the weight of leadership, but it is lightened every single day by the stories of transformation, healing, and joy that come from our studios.
To all of our franchisees, staff, and guests—thank you. Thank you for believing in the power of art. Thank you for bringing the aloha spirit to life in every swirl of paint and every warm welcome.
It is my greatest joy to lead this movement. And it is my greatest honor to walk this journey with you.
With love, gratitude, and aloha,
Maya Ratcliff
